The Ghost Light

The Ghost Light!
OK I guess I should say a thing or two about fashion before we get on with things this week. I have really simple rules about fashion and style....
Rule #1... Don't follow fashion rules; as most were made by people who are are now dead and don't have a pulse in what is happening in the world today much less having a pulse. Any rule in life is made to be broken, bent or modified.

Rule # 2... Recycle fashion; whether you shop second hand turn your draperies into a ball gown or give away what you no longer wear or does not suit you any longer, it will make a difference in your life and others....Please don't break this rule.

Rule #3... Manners  are the best accessory you can have.... I'm not gong to be the manners or etiquette police but  if you are someone who talks on your  mobile telephone in public places ( especially a store that I am shopping in) or restaurants or snap your fingers at waiters and other service workers, or snap at me after you  have run into me on the sidewalk while you are texting--- then please stop reading this blog right now and go buy a book either Miss  Manners or Emily Post... you really don't have a moment to loose. Do your self and the world a big favor and stop acting like a petulant peasant. I said years ago that manners, taste and style can't be bought, sold or sent away for (and I'll add in the 21st century) downloaded in an app.

For those of you still here thank you for realizing that being considerate is one of the best things you can have on your life resume. It is one of best assets you can have that garners the greatest rewards.

I suppose I should tell how this all started... I mean me turning out who I am (although I feel like I'm still evolving). What is your first memory?... Mine is standing on a stage just prior to turning four and being bathed in light and showered with applause and cheers and realizing a standing ovation is something really wonderful. I even remember what I was wearing; navy blue jacket, crisp white shirt, grey flannel trousers (I am still partial to that outfit to this very day)... but I digress because that night on a stage holding hands and taking a bow I became hooked on applause, cheers and laughter; it's like a drug for me the way heroine is for some people I suppose ( I've never taken heroine so I'm reaching here)... all of it is what has helped keep me alive and happy because I realized something that night and I kept learning it as I went along is that it was not all about me... I was part of something bigger and was only a contributor to the show or life or the party.

The world has come so far in my life with all the technology and wizardry we have for making our lives easier... I'm able to send pictures of myself to my agent by computer, I'm able to receive music by e-mail and can send it to my voice teacher to be arranged sitting at my kitchen table sipping a cup of tea without a stitch of clothing on.... But I think some of us are starting to lose part of our humanity in the process because we are starting to forget how we are supposed to conduct ourselves face to face and not text to text.

I have always known that people in the entertainment industry can sometimes be the most vain, self centered and sometimes callous people on earth... but when the chips are down the true professionals shine in every way possible especially in professionalism. I wish I could say it is true of most of the people I encounter... but sadly it's not.

So I'll leave you with this... What is your favorite place? One of mine is on a darkened stage of a theater with only the work light and the thrill of anticipation of what lies ahead.... honestly it's about the only time I'm not nervous or worried about the squalor of what is often the real world and this whole experience can't be e-mailed or texted it's just me  and the ghost light and what we are able to conjure as a team.

Thanks for tuning in now go spend some time in your favorite place even if it's a treasured memory... see you next week... I'll be talking about that Courreges shirt and some other neat things.
