A Brief Intermission

I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday season... I know I did but it was a mad whirl and I'm a bit behind in my writing and just about everything else in life. I'm going to take a little time out this week but I'll be back next week to continue my series on Hawaii... make sure to read it as I'll be discussing all the fun things to do that are free or reasonably inexpensive; because let's face it no matter how hard we try to budget we sometimes have more dash than cash.

I know I said earlier I would be sharing some fun stories about some of the fabulous people I've met along the way and this seems like the perfect time to share one of those stories... about 15 or 16 years ago I was invited to a party hosted by Vanity Fair Magazine and it was one of those Black Tie fancy-dancy affairs where you show your invitation and are given a card telling you which table you are seated at for dinner... well at first I thought there was a mistake or there was someone else attending and we share the same name because to my utter disbelief I was seated at Table One... (I'm never at table one!) so I nonchalantly walked over to the table and sure enough there was a place card with my (or our) name on it... I noticed the person sitting immediately to my right was named Natalie Cole (I first thought how funny there are two people with that name too...  I was thinking that I bet she has fun making dinner reservations) and suddenly the actual Natalie Cole was walking up to the table to take her seat and we introduced ourselves to each other. What can I say? I thought I was dreaming... she was a delightful, lovely woman  and I had one of the most devine evenings of my life visiting with her during dinner. She was the perfect embodiment of a true star... beautiful, talented and charming. I was so sad to hear of her death and how complicated her life has been since we shared that one magical night.

This week I have to take some time out for me to relight my fuses and tend to some bruises. I'm not a big believer in going backward or even sideways but I need to revisit some dreams I left behind when I was reaching for something else and dust them off and re-examine them and make some modifications or completely discard them and move on... See you next week with a lot of cool stuff to do in Honolulu... Me ke aloha!
